Toy Box | トイ・ボックス
Style: Shoyu w/ Chicken
Bowl to Crush: Ajitama Chashu Shoyu Ramen | 味玉チャーシュー醤油ラーメン
The master of Toy Box, Yamagami-san, previously worked at 69nroll one (pronounced 'rock n roll one' in Japanese), a spot that was at one point hailed as one of the best shoyu ramen shops in all of Japan. The pedigree is highly apparent in Yamagami-san's cooking.
Toy Box's soup is off the charts – golden in color from the layer of chicken oil ladled into the bowl, it reaches deep, umami-rich dimensions of flavor. The noodles are straight, thin and served firm. The house-made menma here is also on point – sweet, crunchy, superb.
With just eight seats wrapped around the counter, the square shaped interior has an intimate atmosphere, with Yamagami-san at the center of it all, playing in the kitchen. The restaurant is his very own ‘toy box.’ A legit ramen beast and a friendly dude, he's always up for a chat. Tell him we sent you.
