Fukumimi is located 45 minutes down the Keio train line in the rather remote Tokyo suburb city of Fuchu – and it's only open for three hours over lunch. Yes, this is yet another destination ramen spot catering to a small local community and the devoted ramen head who's willing to make the effort. And the limited-access approach seems to be working just fine for them: there is regularly a long line of ramen geeks waiting at the door for a seat. 

Fukumimi's offering is a take on Hachioji-style ramen: dark shoyu soup with thin, homemade noodles. Topped with diced onion and iwa nori (rock seaweed), this bowl is nothing flashy, but it's all put together with incredible precision. The balance should give you pause. Everything about the shop has a very Japanese feel. The menu is simple: chuka soba and tokusei chuka soba are all that is served.
